- Except for the last 8 months I have lived within a few kilometres
- of Lucas Heights, i.e., the last 24 years. I don't glow in the
- dark. I am not bald. From my front verandah you can see HIFAR
- clearly. When I was young (we're talking about 10-12) my school
- mates and I, being allowed to roam the bush, would often walk over to
- `the reactor' and visit the visitors' centre. I wonder how many
- for the people in Engadine (where I come from) who complain have
- ever actually bothered to do this. The ignorance and gut-reaction
- I have seen to the one place we have to do some research (and prepare
- important medicines) really appals me. One of my high-school friend's
- mother was big in the `let's get rid of Lucas Heights' movement.
- I always found it amusing that she moved into the area when it was
- already there and has moved since then and has still stayed in the area.
