- Here is a summary of schools, which I compiled a while back and
- just realised had never posted. It's made up of individuals own
- comments (which I've attributed), so the views belong to those
- who made them.
-
- At the end are a couple of suggestions for day flights from Sydney.
-
- Cheers, Phil Ryan.

- HIRING, and INSTRUCTORS
- ------------------------
-
- BANKSTOWN
- ---------
-
-
- Sydney Aerobatic School
- Robin 2160 $115/hr Wet Hobbs
- Siai Marchetti $155/hr Wet Hobbs
- Pitts S2 ~$165/hr (Hobbs) Wet
- they use a mix of Hobbs +10% VDO
- Duchess ?
-
- Instructors $50/hr. Briefing $40 (?).
-
- I like them. The instructors I've met are very proficient,
- their pre flight briefings run about half an hour or more,
- and cover the lesson in detail.
- The Robins are quite fast (VNO 127 kts) -- you might save a
- couple of minutes getting to the training zone. And you
- can do aerobatics in them.
-
- To hire the planes you practically have to have done your lessons
- with them. For the Robin it's phase one aeros, for the Marchetti
- it's phase 2, and the Pitts - phase 3. I guess if you have a decent
- swag of experience, and meet with Noel Kruse's approval then you might
- get away with a check ride.

- Sydney Aerobatic school are the most expensive in instructor
- time, but they are Well worth it!. Definitely the highest standards
- I have seen. I would definitely go for Sydney aerobatic school.
- You get your initial training plus an aerobatic endorsement.
- It may be more expensive, But, like anything, you get
- what you pay for.

- Whitworth Aviation
-
- I think that Whitworth Aviation is one of the best.
-
- Cait Greenup -- ilanet@peg.pegasus.oz.au
-
- I fully agree that Whitworth are good, in fact a friend and
- I (as well as many others from here) do ALL our flying with
- them.

- Jon.Biddell@unsw.edu.au (Jon Biddell)
-
- Clamback and Hennessy
-
- (these people evoke strong emotions for some reason.)
-
- I like Clamback & Hennessy at Bankstown. They tend NOT to have
- instructors on their way to airlines. I also got a lot out of
- having an occasional flight with an instructor other than my
- regular one.
- ggr@acci.com.au (Greg Rose)
-
- I agree that Clamback and Hennessy are pretty good.
-
- Cait Greenup -- ilanet@peg.pegasus.oz.au
-
- As for C&H, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on
- fire - the only instructors I've dealt with there are arrogant,
- gung-ho pigs, and the aircraft are not in what I would call
- "tip top" condition (unlike Whitworth's ).
-
- Jon.Biddell@unsw.edu.au (Jon Biddell)
-
- Arrow Flying Club
-
- I've just joined the Arrow flying club at Bankstown, and will
- be happy to post a comparison between that and the other ways
- I've been paying for flying, as soon as I've done some.

- C172 $125 dual

- We have 172RG's, 182RG's (200hr limit) and others.
-
- Instructors
- The instructors up here give good and thorough pre-flight
- / de-briefing sessions. My instructor up here (CFI), figures
- the student out VERY quick, he's very good and thorough.

-
- CANBERRA
- --------
-
- Average around here is $100/hr for a C150 wet with instructor.
- $120/hr for a 172, $105 for a Beech Skipper. My instructor is
- also a personal friend so I have been getting the ground
- briefings and some other training free, :-) so I don't know local
- prices for those.

-
- TRIPS AWAY
- ----------
-
-
- Moruya makes a nice day trip during warm weather. Pack a picnic
- lunch and towel and cozzies. Cessnock is good for a weekend
- trip with friends who like to guzzle, so long as you don't mind
- not doing so at the same time.
- ggr@acci.com.au (Greg Rose)
-
- Regarding places to fly to from Sydney .. up the coast at 500'
- above sea level to Taree is very pleasant and pax normally
- love it.
- ilanet@peg.pegasus.oz.au Cait Greenup
-
-
- When the cold gets too much, come up to the tropical paradise
- and fly the Whitsundays, Cairns, the northern table lands,
- Hamilton island, Brampton island, Dunk island.
