- Once again, in the book, Mina is an integral part of the action. In the
- beginning, we read Harker's diary and Mina's diary. Mina tells all about Lucy
- until Jonathan is found and then Seward's diary takes over. Mina is the one
- who records Van Helsing's first visit to her in her journal and that is the
- account that we read. We also read letters from Mina to Lucy. The woman we
- rarely hear directly from is Lucy.
-
- After everyone convenes at the asylum, we read Seward's diary and Mina's diary.
- She is a main character, more so than Quincey or Godalming. She tells us about
- her first encounter with Dracula though she does not realize that is what
- happened to her, but we know because we recognize the signs from Lucy's
- encounters with Dracula.
-
- I would also like to point out that Mina and Jonathan shared a room in the
- asylum that was a GUEST room. It did not have bars or anything like it. Both
- were free to come and go as they pleased.
-
- Also, Mina never met Dracula on the street. Jonathan recognized him in London,
- but Dracula did not see Jonathan in that encounter.
-
- In the book, Dracula intended to leave Jonathan Harker to the women in the
- castle, but Jonathan managed to escape from the castle before that happened.
- Jonathan's first (and I think, only) encounter with those women was cut short
- by Dracula's entrance. There was no sex.
-
- Please, please, please, please read the book before you make comparisons like
- this. Someone else said that the only thing this book had in common with
- Bram Stoker's _Dracula_ is the title. I tend to agree.
