  14. a followup to the "folk/fake"lore Paul Bunyan minidebate...

  21. Living less than three hours from an *actual* Paul Bunyan statue (Bemidji,
  22. MN, for those of you looking for thrills), I guess, exposed me to plenty of
  23. Paul Bunyan lore when I was going through elementary school.

  25. I was quite shocked to learn that Paul, his grease-skating chefs, his
  26. mighty axe (and, lest we forget, Babe, the Blue Ox!), were all a PR/ad
  27. bit invented by a logging chain in the early part of the century.

  29. Of course, few people realize that the Pledge of Alliegance itself
  30. was written as an ad spiel by a flag company to get sales moving on Flag
  31. Day.
