- Gee, now I feel guilty since it was my post that the original responder
- commented on that started the rebirth of this thread. (IT'S ALIVE! ALIVE!)
- In any case I feel the need to defend the toonsters. During this
- disscussion, the age old "the toonsters have yet to come up with anything
- original" line was foisted upon us. Sorry to tell you this but Looney Tunes
- wasn't the most original series of shorts either. Let's take Bugs Bunny as
- an example. The usual premise of a Bug & Elmer cartoon:
-
- 1. Elmer goes hunting for Bugs
- 2. Bugs decides to fix Elmer's little red wagon
- 3. After large amounts of pain are inflicted on Elmer,
- Bugs "wins" at the end of the short.
-
- Now this *is* a little simplistic, but you will find that a lot of Bugs &
- Elmer cartoons follow this formula. Sylvester and Tweety are another "same
- plot over and over again" routine.
-
- Also the creation of Acme Acres and the Looniversity as well as the ages of
- the toonsters allow certain plots and situations that just aren't possible
- in the old Looney Tunes Universe.
- Examples:
- Milk, It Makes a Body Spout
- The Horn Blows at Lunchtime
- Never Too Late to Loon
-
- These are *excellent* cartoons that the old Looney Tunes gang could *never*
- pull off because 1) they are adults and 2) they lack the nessacery setting
- for these shorts to make sense.
-
- All in all, Tiny Toons, while not a *completely* original idea (something
- which is hard to do in the first place), has a magick all its own.
-
- August Paul Yang hopes to see the end of this thread soon.
