- In reply to a number of queries concerning Holly's transformation from a
- balding, middle-aged man (Norman Lovett) to a young blonde woman (Hattie
- Hayridge):
-
-
- In "Parallel Universe", Holly invented a Holly-Hop-Drive, which was supposed
- to transport the ship to Earth instantly. Instead it plunged them into a
- parallel universe, with a similar Red Dwarf, crewed by female versions of
- Lister, Rimmer and Holly. And a Dog. The female computer in the parallel
- universe was called Hilly, and she helped Holly to repair the Drive.
-
- In the Star Wars-style opening crawl to "Backwards" (1st story, 3rd season),
- it is explained that Holly had fallen in love with Hilly, and conducted a
- head sex-change operation on himself. It also explains why Kryten only
- appeared in the first story of season 2, but was a regular character in
- the next three series. In "Kryten", Kryten borrows Lister's space-bike.
- He blasts off, but crashes into an asteroid. Lister finds him and repairs him
- (again), but is unable to recapture his former personality, or face.
-
- I'll post the opening crawl if I can find it. It explains a lot about the
- gaps between the second and third seasons.
