- At Starcon a few months ago (already?), they showed considerably more from
- those days, including slides and commercials and so forth. I posted some
- stuff about it back then but perhaps some people missed it...
-
- Back then they had a budget of $50 per show. It's around a thousand times
- that now... the sets, as we all saw, were much less elaborate, as were the
- 'bots. Crow's eyes did not move, for example, and Servo (no "Tom" then
- either) was not as fancy as he is nowadays. What they didn't show was
- Gypsy, who was even further removed from her current self - she almost
- looked like she was made from girders. All the bots were much more metallic
- in appearance and the voices were less humanized. Gypsy's voice was done by
- someone inhaling while they talked - it came out as an inarticulate croak.
-
- It appeared as though they used a control room from the station as the set
- for Deep 13 - you could see a vectorscope and a waveform monitor in the
- background.
-
- There was even a clip where Joel had long hair...
-
- Overall, the latter season shows managed to keep some of the home-made feel
- of the first season, but once you see how things used to be, it's clear that
- they're operating on a much better-funded level these days...
