- Hi Joe,
-
- I think you mixed the foams up. Normally polyester boards have the polyurethane foam
- (Clark or some other brand) as a core. The epoxy boards use the polystyrene or even
- better styrofoam as a core. The advantage of styrofaom over the other two is that
- styrofoam doesn't absorb any water at all !!
-
- The advantage of polyester over epoxy is that it dries MUCH faster than epoxy. Normaly
- polyester takes about 10 - 12 hours to dry (20 degrees celcius). Epoxy takes about
- 24 hours to dry although there are some special epoxies which dry as fast as polyester,
- but they are very expensive. Talking about prices, epoxy is about 1.5 upto 2 times as
- expensive (at least here in Holland) as polyester.
-
- So what is the reason to build epoxy boards ? Well they are MUCH and i mean MUCH STRONGER
- than polyester boards, this is one of the reasons that epoxy is used a lot on
- windsurf boards.
-
- Greetings from a cold and rainy Holland
