- In high school, I was the person in charge of the stage crews for
- the various shows we did each year. As such, I had access to all
- parts of our theatre space. One day, when math class just seemed
- too oppressive, i was sitting in the audio booth, listening to
- some tunes on the new CD player and reading a magazine. A friend
- of mine came by and mentioned that it was the birthday of a mutual
- friend of ours. We began scheming about ways to help her celebrate.
- Suddenly, I looked up on the wall where there was a speaker for the
- school's PA system. "Say," I mused, "I'll bet we could hook up to
- that..." We connected an amp and a tape deck and played "Today's
- your birthday" by the Beatles. Because we knew the song lasted for
- a few minutes, we went outside into the hallway to make sure it was
- working. It was. All over the school. I returned to the audio
- booth and, when the song was over, said (in a disguised voise, of
- course) "Happy birthday <name>". If anyone figured out who did it,
- we never heard about it. But people talked about it for the rest
- of the day.
