- I have received a couple of messages requesting how to make the scarves
- and jackets I mentioned in response to Holiday Gift Ideas. I have
- attempted to describe how to make both ideas below, however, it is not
- necessarily clear without pictures which I am unable to include. I will
- add that if anyone would like to receive copies of instructions complete
- with pictures I will be more than willing to send them a copy via the mail
- if they could send me a self-addressed, stamped envelope to : Linda Koch
- 2311 Heritage Dr. Titusville FL 32780. Thanks...
-
- Here goes my attempt at HOW TO....
-
- MAKE DECORATIVE SCARF:
-
- Materials needed:
- 1/4 yard Piece of 45" wide material --
- Velcro square (small velcro piece)
- thread
-
- The scarf starts out retangular 45 X 9". Finish edges of scarf. With my
- serger I do a rolled hem.
-
- Fold the scarf in half length ways to find the center point. Mark with
- pin. then Unfold.
-
- You will then gather from one end to the mid-point (length wise) by
- hand-sewing gathering stitches at every 1/2 inch or so down the center
- point of the SHORT width. Pull the gathering together. This should form
- like a fanfold bow. Stitch on back side of scarf to hold bow in place.
- You will then sew a piece of the velcro also to the back side.
-
- At the other end of the scarf, you fold the SHORT width in thirds so it is
- about 1/3 of the width. This is the location where you should sew the
- other piece of velcro.
-
- The scarf is then complete. Always a ready-to-wear fanfold scarf without
- the hassle.
-
- SWEATSHIRT JACKETS
-
- Materials:
- 1 Store Bought Sweatshirt
- interfacing
- About 1 yard of coordinating fabric (remember many people feel sweatshirts
- are fairly durable so watch type of fabric purchased for shrinking, etc.)
-
-
- Cut the sweatshirt down the front in the middle (opening for the jacket).
-
- Out of the material, you will cut two pieces for the lapels. The length
- of the sweatshirt along the front where you just cut (also, allow for the
- seams at the end) by about 2-3" (depending on the preferred width of the
- lapel or if you want to add buttons). Cut out 2 pockets, and 2 Ties for
- the pockets.
-
- Especially if you are planning to add buttons down the front, you will
- want to put interfacing in the lapel. Also, I put lightweight interfacing
- along the top portion of the pocket (read on to understand why)
-
- Sew the lapels along the cut edges of the front of the jacket.
-
- I fold down the top edge of the pocket and put interfacing along there. I
- then make a button hole in the top center of the pocket (this is where I
- tie the tie mentioned above.)
-
- Sew the pocket onto the jacket. Complete the tie and tie through the
- button hole on the pocket. This will cause the pocket to gather along the
- top for a different affect.
-

-
- I hope this can be understood. If anyone can provide better description
- (if you can understand this), you are more than welcome to.
-
- Happy stitching!!
