- I own a couple of hand-washable silk T's that I have washed several times,
- and when I iron the blouses, it seems like one of two things is happening.
- Either the silk is stretching or the thread that was used to stitch them
- is shrinking. The sleeve hems (for example) seem to be pulling in at the
- stitching and flaring out at the edges.
-
- Since I'm in the process of sewing my own silk blouse, I'm wondering if
- there's something I should be doing to keep this from happening. I read
- in my Threads Fit and Fabric book that I could pre-wash the silk so it
- will be hand-washable when I'm done. (I've done this. In fact, I've
- already done some of the stitching, but I haven't worked on it for a while,
- partly because I'm concerned about this stretching/shrinking phenomenon.)
- They also say it isn't necessary to use silk thread, but my observations
- make me wonder if this is true.
-
- Any experience/words of wisdom out there?
-
- Thanks,
-
- Sigrid.
