  16. I couldn't agree more, Travis.  I could never figure out
  17. why people marry either, for the same reasons you described.
  18. I looked at it like this; I figured that marriage was for life,
  19. and I notice that the average life expectancy is 75 years old.
  20. That would mean that if one gets married at age 20, then they
  21. would be stuck with one person for 55 years!  I just know
  22. that they would have to get bored with each other.  That is 
  23. why I really didn't worry about marriage.  I liked getting
  24. different women, and if one doesn't work out, I just move
  25. on.  Things are so much simpler that way.  However, if you
  26. do meet someone who you want to have some type of long-term
  27. relationship with, the living-together syndrome is a viable
  28. alternative, but it has it's drawbacks.  Example, in some
  29. states, even though the two people are living together without
  30. the benefit of marriage, if the relationship fails, then it
  31. is possible for one partner to sue the other under the
  32. infamous "palimony" statutes.  Also, some states recognize 
  33. the legality of common law marriages, when someone lives
  34. with another for a set period of time.  I think that you
  35. are better off setting up some form of legal agreement, prior
  36. to coming together in a relationship, either by marriage or
  37. just living together.  I'm referring to a prenuptial agreement.
  38. Also, if this is implemented, then when one gets married, you
  39. can take advantage of the tax benefits, and still be protected
  40. by the prenuptial agreement.
