- This is NOT evidence that U2 has "sold out" -- it's simply your
- opinion. I agree that the songs you listed are better than what was
- released (except for Who's gonna ride your wild horses -- I love it!),
- but they release what they want to. Apparently, they like what they
- released more than what they didn't. That means you do not hold the
- same opinion as them, big deal. Who cares? But to call it evidence of
- selling out? C'mon....
-
- They have not had any need to "sell" out since after the "War" tour. At
- that time, they re-negotiated their contracts so that *they* own the
- rights to all songs they have written, past, present, and future. With
- that behind them, they have no concern over money (other than not
- spending it all away). Royalties alone at the time would keep them all
- living nicely for a long time to come.
-
- And, for that matter, I hear they are *losing* money on the Zoo TV tour,
- from all the expenses of the stage and set. If that's the case, I would
- hardly consider them to be "selling out".
-
- I understand where those of you that think U2 have sold out are coming
- from, I simply disagree with you. The same was said of Springsteen
- during the "Born in the USA" tour. The new songs are different, and
- apparently not what you wanted, or at least not what you would have
- preferred they do. But, the whole point of being in a band is to do
- what you want to do, not what the fans want you to hear. When they
- start doing things solely because it's what the fans want, THEN they
- have sold out. I don't think they have reached that point (hopefully
- never will).
