- >If you haven't heard Joe Satriani; then you don't know what real instrumental
- rock is. I'm a major fan of the style, and IMHO he's probably the most
- musically talented, original, and expressive player out there. And speaking
- of Satch, I just bought tickets to see him in Minneapolis on Dec. 20th with
- T-RIDE. I've seen them once before (the lead axe is one of Satriani's many
- prominent protege's) and while they are definately a METAL band, they are
- doing some original and very cool things with vocal harmonys. If you've
- ever heard them, you'll know what I mean (and yes, they really can sing like
- that live). Anyway, I'd highly recommend the show, if you can still catch it;
- as well as any of Satriani's discs (excepting *maybe* the next to latest one -
- he's not much of a vocalist). As far as other instrumental rock/metal,
- there's Yngwie Malmstein (very fast; not always as expressive or well crafted
- as Satch). Also, there are several interesting instrumental metal collections
- out there - for example the Guitars that Rule the World and Ominous Guitarists
- from Beyond discs. Good luck; and enjoy!
