  22.     It usually doesn't happen over here, but often times promoters will
  23. hire off-duty cops as security as insurance and to kiss up to the police force
  24. in general.  However, any outdoor free rave (Golden Gate Park, some of the
  25. Full Moon raves, etc.) usually involves some amount of dealing with the police.
  26. At the last full moon rave here held in the Berkeley Marina, the cops actually
  27. parked their car right next to the dance floor and watched everyone dance, 
  28. while a couple others walked around the area watching over people.  It put a 
  29. damper on the event, yes, but NO arrests were made, even though people were
  30. smoking MJ and doing nitrous. (And lots were X'ing, but that's not nearly so
  31. obvious - I was just worried about someone walking up to a policeman and
  32. hugging him  :)

  34.     Actually, the cops seemed to be halfway enjoying it - I swear at one
  35. point in the night I looked over at the cop sitting on the hood of his car 
  36. parked next to the dance floor and saw his head bobbing a little.  They were
  37. very benevolent, though it may have been mainly because it looked like we
  38. had our act together, and there was _very_ little alcohol there.

  40.     On the other hand, over the summer there was a daytime rave at a 
  41. waterslide park in San Jose, and there were two bikini-clad women walking
  42. around and asking the guys reeeeeally nicely if they could get them some X.
  43. Those who were able to get some for them found themselves in handcuffs 
  44. shortly thereafter.
