- (ignore that 'ancient played out shit' line... most of this stuff is about
- a year old, and none of it gets much play any more, but I think you were
- asking how much of this CD represents 'authentic' rave music. well, in
- my HUMBLE opinion...)

- The good news is that while I have heard all of these popular tracks at
- raves (mostly this summer, not any more), most of this compilation does not
- have much in common with the infamous 'techno-rave' pop that was out at the
- time. This is probably less true for the UK, where this kind of stuff is
- not so underground. Anyway, these tracks were played alongside then-unknown
- hardcore tracks, as well as the pop stuff like O Fortuna, Sesame's Treet, and
- Get Ready For This. Musically they represent only a couple forms of techno,
- mainly breakbeat, and they are pretty good examples of what rave music is
- *like*. They are hits but I wouldn't call them pure pop, nor a 'best of'
- last year's breakbeat techno.

- I've heard the latter over the summer, and things that sound like these are
- still popular. A fast booming bass beat and reverbed-to-hell handclaps
- with 909 hi-hats and squiggly 303 acid noises are the more trancey,
- hardcore form of techno. Again, not pure pop, not a 'best of' last
- year's hard trance, but a good example of a style of rave music.

-
- I like this mix a lot but haven't heard it outside my bedroom. It is
- good, fairly sparse and slow by today's standards, breakbeat stuff.
-
- > 9. East Side Beat-"Ride Like The Wind" (Factory Edit)
- > 11. Utah Saints-"What Can You Do For Me"
-
- Big club hits. The Utah Saints track is an example of that pop techno
- I'm talking about. The other is hardly techno, just crap. (imHo)

- FFRR trying to push some of their mediocre house music on us. These
- tracks are not techno and are not likely to be heard at a rave, at least
- not here.
-
- There, that was my HUMBLE opinion. Please followup all flames to
- misc.test.
