- There are two tracks on Give Peace a Dance vol. 2 by a band
- called "Suns of Arqa". I liked most everything on that compilation,
- so when I saw a Suns of Arqa disc at Wax Trax this weekend I couldn't
- resist.
-
- I'm glad.
-
- This is nice, mellow but not quite ambient sometimes-house with a
- lot of what I sounds like sitar, and various other eastern sounding
- instruments (the list of band members cite "sarangi", "tabla",
- drums, and bass guitar). The song titles and some samples have a
- christian tone, but it's all instrumental, no indication of any "message"
- here. The album is _Alap-Joe-Jhala_, and appears to be mostly
- various mixes of about four songs:
-
- 1. He Did Not Die (Gadgi Mix) 4:13
- 2. Bye- Ragi Version (Phil Kirby Mix) 4:32
- 3. What Does it Profit? " 4:45
- 4. He Did Not Die (Roger Vanilla Mix) 7:20
- 5. Gavati Alap 1:06
- 6. Gavati vilambit 11:07
- 7. Gavati madhya 2:35
- 8. Outro :48
- 9. Gavati drut 5:49
- 10. Bye- Ragi Alap 1:40
- 11. Bye- Ragi vilambit 11:07
- 12. Bye- Ragi madhya 3:56
- 13. Bye- Ragi drut 6:16
-
- (I say appears because I'm only about half way through the album)
-
- The number is Arka 2102CD. I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed
- the tracks on _Give Peace A Dance vol. 2_.
-
-
- Now, for my information, can anyone make sense of the notations
- (vilambit/madhya/drut) that are associated both with "Bye" and
- "Gavati" in various incarnations? Does anyone have more info on
- this group? According to the discography included with the CD
- (very nice) This was their 11th release, the 4th on CD with several
- of the earlier releases deleted in their original forms, but with tracks
- and other bits re-released on later CDs. There have been two releases
- that were supposed to come after this one, including the one with the
- track that has its various forms on Give Peace a Dance.
