  16. Worcester Polytechnic Institute's one and only creative arts magazine, 
  17. PATHWAYS, is sponsoring a STUDENT POETRY READING.

  20. If YOU are a student attending a NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY and you 
  21. would like to read some of your own ORIGINAL works is a relaxed and 
  22. receptive setting please contact us.  WPI and other schools in the 
  23. Worcester Consortium  have been holding readings together every couple of
  24. months for the last year and a half.  Pathways, in deciding to help 
  25. continue a developing tradition, has decided to open this opportunity
  26. up to any student in New England.  Of course, we will have to limit the
  27. number of readers due time constraints, but everyone who wants to come and
  28. at least watch is invited and its FREE.

  35. Time: 7pm - Until we finish (approx 10pm)

  37. Where: Gompei's Place on the WPI Campus (directions to follow later)

  39. If you want to read:
  40.  
  41. We will be looking for approximately 30 people to read on the night of the
  42. show.  We expect (or hope) that we will receive responses from more than 30
  43. people.  We will be giving preference to Worcester Constortium students 
  44. first, after that readers will be chosen on a first come (reply) first serve
  45. basis.  So if you really want to read, reply quickly, BUT if you are 
  46. associated with a Literary/creative Arts magazine at your school, get 
  47. together and PLEASE reply as a group.  Another restriction we are imposing is
  48. that there can be no more than four readers from one school - we trying to 
  49. maintain a level of diversity and we don't want a group coming in and
  50. dominating the mix (this doesn't quite add up in all senses, but that's 
  51. poetic license for you).  Also, when you reply, PLEASE include the good,
  52. trivial type of information we will need to make decent introductions (i.e.
  53. names, majors, yr. in school, wahtever).  We also ask that you try to be
  54. as firm as possible in your commitment.  We expect that some people will 
  55. have to cancel out after we have made our final plans, but try and be sure
  56. because you can't have a reading without poets.  
  57.  
  58. Each poet will be given approximately 5 minutes on stage.  That is not a 
  59. whole heck of a long time, but we like to keep things moving.  If you 
  60. don't spend too much time on stage shuffling your papers and your works
  61. aren't tremendoulsy long, you can fit in 4 or 5 poems easily.  You will
  62. not be clocked while you are reading, but we expect that everyone will
  63. be fair to the other readers and present themselves accordingly.

  66. Once we have received enough responses we will create a list of readers for
  67. the reading.  That and further media blitz type of stuff will be posted 
  68. here and elsewhere.  Even if you don't get to read, we still encourage you 
  69. to attend.  It should be quite a kick and readings are always the best place 
  70. to make contacts regarding future readings (as if you didn't know that - seems
  71. obvious, doesn't it?).

  75. From the East:

  77.     Take 495 (N or S, depending on where you're at) to 290 W.  Take 290 W
  78. to exit 18.  At the bottom of the exit, there is a set of lights. Stop at the
  79. lights if need be (i.e. red or *very* yellow light) and then when feasible take
  80. a right off of the exit. About a whole 40 yards later, take another right and 
  81. have some fun merging with traffic( you are now on salisbury st.)  Once you've
  82. had your fill of that (it 
  83. shouldn't take long)  you will come to a set of lights. Go straight through 
  84. these lights.  You will come to another set of lights - go straight thru these
  85. lights too. You will come to a third set of lights - go straight thru these.
  86. You  will begin to ascend a small hill. There will be a park on the right
  87. and a few brick buildings on the left (the wpi campus).  When you reach the top
  88. of this hill take a left (on to west street).  About 100M later take a right
  89. into the visitors parking lot.  Park there if you can find space.  If you  have
  90. entered the visitors parking lot and succesfully parked whilst maintaining the
  91. same orientiation with which you have entered the parking lot Riley hall should
  92. be on your left. Gompei's is in the basement of Riley hall.

  95. From The West:
  96.  
  97. Take the Mass Pike to 290 East.  Take 290 east to the Lincoln Sq. exit.  There 
  98. is a  set of lights at the top of the exit.  Take a left off the exit. Go 
  99. straight through your next 5 sets of lights (you are on highland street, also
  100. known as rt. 9). At the 6th set of lights, take a Right onto west st.  You 
  101. will come to a  four way stop one block later. Go straight thru that.  Take 
  102. your next left into the visitors parking lot.  See the above directions on how
  103. to find gompeis from there.
