  17. The last time I looked at statistics, a good deal of murders were related
  18. to other crimes (robberies, etc.), and a good deal to domestic issues.
  19. There are, of course, some murders that I think are simply due to legitimate
  20. "insanity" (hell, for all we know it could be something organic like ACh 
  21. imbalance in the brain, though I don't think it's anything that simplistic
  22. or we'd have found it).  As population grows larger, we'll naturally see
  23. more and more of that.

  25. Actually, population is probably a significant factor; if for no other
  26. reason, some murderers kill more than one person (and it's not possible
  27. for a murder to kill less than one person), so on the average, assuming
  28. a fixed percentage of murderers per capita, you get more murders as the
  29. population increases.  Plus which, as population increases, the percentage
  30. of murderers probably goes up as well, which means even more murders as
  31. population increases.
