  12. The following piece of satire was cancelled illegitimately shortly
  13. after being posted [Scott--> er, and possibly cancelled again after it
  14. was re-posted.  Lets see if the powers-that-be-in-IRC can control NNTP
  15. on a global scale. *SHUDDER* ].  I guess somebody out there doesn't
  16. have a sense of humour.  Complaints have been sent to the appropriate
  17. people at ANU.

  21. Avalog has been apprehended not far from NORAD after launching
  22. nuclear weapons at every major city in the world.

  24. His interview with the arresting officers is included below.

  26. Arresting Officer: Did you launch nuclear missiles at all major
  27.         cities in the world?

  29. Avalog: No, I didn't.

  31. AO:    Are you sure about that?

  33. Avalog: Absolutely.

  35. AO:    We have 20 witnesses who say they saw you do it.

  37. Avalog: They're lying. I don't have the disk space.

  41. Avalog: That doesn't mean I launched them.

  43. AO:    There is a video tape made by the closed circuit Television in
  44.     that room showing you launching the missiles.

  54. AO:    Well do you admit you launched the missiles?

  56. Avalog: No, I pressed this button. *It* launched the missiles.

  58. AO:    So you did want to bomb the world.

  60. Avalog:    Get a clue you lamer arresting officer. If you did as much
  61.     coding on the missiles as I do you would *know* that I
  62.     didn't expect them to go off when I pressed the button.

  66. Avalog: I had to launch the missiles to catch the hackers.

  70. Avalog: The hackers who were hacking into my machine. And
  71.     by the way, I think you have your prioritiies and
  72.     loyalties all screwed around. Why are you arresting
  73.     me and not them? And why didn't you tell me about
  74.     the people hacking into my machine.

  76. AO:    I didn't know about the hackers hacking into your machine.

  78. Avalog: And besides, it's not like launching missiles is
  79.     exactly hard. Any of the generals in NORAD could have
  80.     done it at any time.

  82. AO:    But they never have done it.

  84. Avalog: How do I know that. Why should we trust them to have
  85.     missiles when we don't know if they launch them all
  86.     the time or not?

  88. AO:    Why did you need to launch missiles to catch hackers?

  90. Avalog: Because they were hiding and it was the only way I
  91.     could find out who they were and where they were.

  95. Avalog:    Well I knew that if the hacking stopped, it had to have
  96.     been somebody in one of the cities I blew up.

  98. AO:    You also killed millions of innocent people, who never
  99.     had anything to do with hacking into your machine and
  100.     probably never even realised it was possible to launch
  101.     nuclear missiles.

  103. Avalog:    Believe me, it's not something I enjoyed doing, but I
  104.     had no choice. I had to do it to catch the hackers.

  106. AO:    Well I don't think you should let you get away with this.
  107.     What do you suggest we do?

  109. Avalog:    Let me go. I only did what I had to do.

  111. AO:    So you're saying that if you get somebody hacking in again,
  112.     you'd do it again? You'd launch nuclear missiles and blow
  113.     up people all around the world?

  115. Avalog: Yes, I'd do it again. I didn't have any choice.

  117. AO:    Well isn't that just all the more reason for us not to trust
  118.     you?

  120. Avalog:    Well Uncle Sam has launched missiles in the past.

  122. AO:    True. But right now we're dealing with *you* launching missiles.

  133.     time too. If you can trust them you should be able to trust
  134.     me.

  144. When asked about this situation, Waftam told reporters "Avalog is not
  145. an inherently evil person. There is more evil in the Arresting Officer
  146. than there is in Avalog. Avalog should be allowed to have his own
  147. nuclear weapons whenever he wants to".
