- Has anybody noticed the way that the Cthulhu "mythos" seems to be intertwined
- with the Illuminati of Bavaria?
-
- 1- Of Adam Weishaupt, the founder of the Illuminati, it was said by those who
- knew him at Ingolstadt University, "He's a deep one..." A most suggestive
- statement, especially in light of the dreadful affairs at Innsmouth.
-
- 2- Yuggoth may sound like it's in some ancient, forgotten language, but
- it's actually a bastardization of Latin and some Slavic language. "Yug-", as
- in Yugoslavia, can mean "southern", whereas the Goths of ancient times lived
- in what is now Germany. So thusly, Yuggoth is in southern Germany, or
- rather *under* southern Germany. In particular under Ingolstadt.
-
- My theory is that Weishaupt and his lieutenants met on some nights in
- an underground grotto beneath Ingolstadt, where they were joined by
- several Shoggoths, the occasional Dhole and perhaps a Lloigor or five. There
- they did deals with the Old Ones and engaged in unspeakable rituals.
-
- In short, while Man has been aware of the existence of the Old Ones for
- millions of years, the Illuminati of Bavaria were the first in modern times
- to make political use of their existence.
