- As a gay man who has decided to stick with Christianity despite what many
- Christians believe about homosexuals, I find the constant bickering between
- those who would condemn us to Hell and thosewho would condemn religion com-
- pletely quite tiresome. The Church's interpretation of Christian morality has
- been wrong before; this is why we've had things such as crusades and inquisi-
- tions. As the Church gave up any justification of slavery a century ago, the
- time hascome for it to lift its ban on homosexual relationships. I do not
- believe, however, that Gods laws are changeable; it is the Churchs interpreta-
- tion of them that has been wrong.
-
- To those who view God and religion as merely some supernatural means of oppres-
- sion, fundamentalist zealots are no more representative of Christians than drag
- queens are of homosexuals. In condemning God, you only increase the pain of
- your gay and lesbian brothers and sisters who spent much of their lives feeling
- that no matter how they expressed themselves sexually, they would always be
- committing an abomination in the eyes of God. As those who preach family val-
- ues divide America, you too create an unnecessary dichotomy between a healthy
- spiritual life and a healthy sex life.
-
- Can we please stop all this useless bickering?
