- My vote for the most all-round useful floor box add-on is a
- compressor. Although not that noticeable in themselves, they make
- the behaviour of many other things (including the guitar itself, and
- the amp, not to mention other effects boxes) MUCH more predictable.
- Depending on your preferred style, the next most popular device
- would probably be some type of chorus unit. Although your amp has a
- built-in capability for distortion, unfortunately, chorus sounds
- miserable when followed by distortion anddistortion sounds terrific
- when followed by chorus (although I'm open to experiments).
- Consequently, unless your amp has an effects loop AFTER the
- distortion where you could plug in the chorus, I'd consider doing my
- distorting with some floor box in between the compressor and chorus.
- See the recent "Distortion" issue of Guitar Player for a cogent
- discussion of the topic. Finally, before we rack up too big a bill,
- a switchable EQ is handy for getting different voicings out of your
- guitar, amp and distortion. Most people will sticktheir EQ boxes
- after the distortion, but there is much tobe gained (no pun
- intended) by sticking it ahead of the distortion box. There you
- have it, compressor, distortion, EQ, and chorus/flanger. You might
- notice that these are precisely what Boss and Korg have put in their
- everything-in-one floor boxes.
