- I must apologize pubically for the content of my message in which I
- flamed the choices of one posters top 10 goth albums... It was
- extrmeley rude and inconsiderate. For some reason, I convinced my
- stoned brain, at the time, that the poster was picking these albums as
- a list of the essential goth albums... In a sobering reality, I
- realize now that this instead is a request for more suggestions in
- addition to the list. So here I am to apologize for my harsh words
- and to offer a few more lucid suggestions....
-
- Music for gothic minded people
- As I mentioned earlier:
- Bauhaus - Press the Eject and Give me the Tape...
- To me, this is the quintessential Bauhaus work. It
- encompasses all the early styles in an amzing live
- performance. Stigamata Martyr is so pure and so raw.
- Back this up with the performances of Hollowed Hills,
- Rose Garden Funeral of Sores, and Bela Lugousi's Dead,
- and you have one incredible, melt into your furniture
- performance.
- Bauhaus - In the Flat Field.
- This album contains most of the excellent songs from
- Press in their studio formats. And also adds the
- incredible song Nerves. This is one is essential for
- your listening pleasure.
- Diamanda Galas - Litanies of Satan...
- No goth does not neccesarily == satianism. But this
- Is definitely possessed music. Check it out for
- Short periods of time. Otherwise you might go crazy.
- It is quite good though.
- Other suggestions...
- Gregorian Chants
- Don't know any specific albums but most are tasty...
- Christian Death
- Early Christian death is hard to approximate.
- Shubert Trio
- I think it is opus 100 or 111. A little on the
- repetive side but it is an incredibly beautiful piece.
- If you have seen the Hunger, then you would probably
- recognize this piece as it is a trio for piano, cello
- and violin. This is the sorrowful
- composition played by Bowie, Deneuve, and the young
- girl. Brilliant music, but it could be edited better.
- Organ music
- Bach fugues, etc... Must be Gothic since it can only
- be played in big European Cathedrals right?
- Beethoven's Piano Sonata opus 27 nr2. 1st and 3rd movements?
- Does extreme sorrow, and extreme rage == goth?
- If so, this should definitely qualify!
-
- I must again apologize for letting myself post whilst under the
- influence of mind altering drugs... Remember kids, don't drive Usenet
- while drugged... There is a lot of music I can recommend as tasty,
- but I'm not sure how gothic it all is... The artists that I have in
- mind are of the same genre that we have been talking about, but it is
- definitely on the fringes of Goth music. I think I'll take those sort
- of recommendations to Rec.music.industrial since they definitely
- belong there.
