  27.     I have to agree that I was also quite dissapointed, not
  28. only with the actual film making itself, but with the script as
  29. a whole.  It was advertised as "Bram Stoker's Dracula", and
  30. said to be the first film accurate to the book, but if it was,
  31. they read a different book than I did...
  32.     The original book contained more than enough plot
  33. twists to make an interesting two hour movie without many of
  34. the things that were added.  For example, what was all of this
  35. about Mina being Dracula's love reincarnated?  Sounds like
  36. someone's been watching too much "Dark Shadows"...  Not a bad
  37. thing necessarily, but let's be reasonable...  A film should
  38. simply not be called "Dracula" if it's not going to have a plot
  39. line at least remotely similar to Bram Stoker's book (I suppose
  40. this one was REMOTELY similar, but not similar enough).  Van
  41. Helsing, instead of being portrayed as a serious scientist, is
  42. shown as a joke.  The role of Renfield, quite important in the
  43. book, is downplayed in the movie to the point to which you
  44. almost have to wonder why they even left him in as a character
  45. -- he's good for no more than the shock value of someone who
  46. eats insects.  I could go on for quite some time listing the
  47. problems of the film, but what would be the point?
  48.     I'm not saying that the film is necessarily all bad,
  49. but I certainly went in expecting a lot more from it.  If you
  50. go to look at all the neat gothic costumes and scenery, you
  51. certainly won't be disappointed.  If you're looking for a film
  52. that gives a good accurate version of the story in the book, it
  53. looks like you're in for a longer wait.
