- I think it may be a bit of racism. I knew a lot of friends (most of them
- black) who thought that it was sort of racist and pretty silly that it's even
- in there. I (who am also black) think the same way, but I don't let that get
- to me. Besides, the game was played non-stop anyhow and you'll rarely even
- see the demo anymore. This was SF2 classic. Now on SF2CE, I thought that
- whole title screen would be taken out. IMHO, I don't think that scene is
- reflective of the game. A white guy punching a black guy in the middle of
- the street, when the game is not about "street" fighting at all. It's about
- doing special moves, blocking, etc..., in essence a karate-type game involving
- strategy. I don't find it too offending; just seems like that either it
- should have been taken out altogether or have it alternate between who
- punches who or something like that. Personally, if it alternated, I still
- wouldn`t like it, because I don't like the title screen anyway; it should be
- scrapped and put something more indicative of the game or just plain get rid
- of it, and just have the Street Fighter logo appear, then "Don't use Drugs.
- William Sessions, US dept of justice (whatever)", then the demo fights between
- the characters.
-
- I think that there's no easy solution to that. If the black guy would always
- punch the white guy, then that's "making blacks out to be bullies or thugs".
- If the white guy always win (the way it is now), then that's "the black guy
- always loses. that's racism". It didn't bother me, but I thought that it
- would have been taken out of the new edition, because I figured that many
- people would complain about it.
