I'm *very* new to this newsgroup, so I don't know if this has been
discussed before--if it has, sorry to have brought it up again.
When I was a freshman, I remember a story that ran rampant in the
all-women's dorm I lived (and still live) in. A few days before Holloween,
the whole dorm (or at least every freshman woman) heard that a friend of a
friend was cutting class the day before and was watching Donahue when they saw
the story of a Holloween serial killer. Apparently, 25 years before, he had
murdered a woman living in an X shaped hall (of which there are only a few in
the US--one of which is Meredith Hall at Purdue). Her roommate had come home
late the night before, to find all the lights out and her roommate asleep on thebed. Being a considerate roommate, she got ready for bed and went to sleep all
without turning on a light. The only weird thing was there was this dripping
sound--but that could have been the radiator just making noise.
In the morning, of course, she found her roommate stabbed and mutilated
on the bed, with "Aren't you glad you didn't turn on the light?" written in
blood on the wall. The man was found and sent to jail, but was being paroled.
He had vowed to kill another woman in an X-Hall, and since Purdue has one of thefew, it was a pretty good chance he'd end up here.
This story made the rounds of the freshmen classes quickly, and I'm
convinced I'm one of the few who didn't believe it. On Holloween, when the killer was supposed to strike, at least 50 women refused to spend the night in
Meredith. I know of three who were sleeping on the floor of friend's room in
my dorm--which was across the street from the infamous Meredith.
I also seem to remember a story about a man with AIDS and a Spring
Break fling that also made the rounds that year.
Does every college have these tall tales? What are the ones from
