- Hey Becca,
- You assume that all fishers keep their prey. Well they don't. I'm one flyfisher
- that finds peace in tying artifical flys to imitate aquatic insects to flyfish
- for trout that I release to catch again another day. I'm also a fisher who
- monitors the life blood of the earth [water] I fish in to make sure it is
- clear and clean and flowing for generations beyond me to enjoy. And if I decide
- to keep a fish, I make sure that I use the resource wisely. Fishing today
- isn't like those old time photos of old men holding up stringers of hundreds of
- fish. Nature has a unique way of balancing itself. Sure I hunt for fish. The
- fish hunt to avoid my flies as well. If I'm skillful I'll catch one or two. If
- the fish are skillful and wise, they'll avoid my offering too.
-
- So please get an education Becca. Instead of dumping on the fishers of this
- world, work to protect the freshwater that fish live in. Work to protect the
- freshwater that you need to get a life and keep it going. For every fisher
- that abuses the water, I'll show you 10 who deeply respect and protect it and
- the things that live in it.
-
- It isn't the fishers who are distrubing the fish, killing the fish, it's the
- people throwing cigarette butts out of their car windows. And it's the
- fish who eat these butts and chock to death on them. It's the people who throw
- motor oil, soap, acid, animal waste, and heavy metals into the creeks who are
- doing a whole lot more damage to fish and water that people who fish.
-
- If people weren't fishing for fish, the states wouldn't be putting millions
- into fish culture and stocking and pure waters management. If people don't use
- that resource, the states wouldn't care to maintain that resource and enhance
- it for future generations to enjoy it.
-
- Don't you tell me to get a life, Becca.
-
- I could say something about all the plastic tampon applicators washed up on
- the beaches of the world, but I won't.
