I am assuming that you are asking about clothing to wear to work.
I am also in a male-dominated technical field (software design) and have
found that both men and women dress casually, i.e. polo shirts and pants.
In general, the only women wearing skirts on a regular basis were the
clerical staff.
The dress code varies wildly from company to company, so I would suggest
buying only a few 'safe' outfits until you figure out what is considered
