  15. Am I the only person in the world who 1) reads and discusses fantasy, 2) knows
  16. how to appreciate "real" literature, and 3) has a keenly-honed appreciation
  17. for Western European mythology, but 4) absolutely can't stand anything written
  18. by J.R.R. Tolkien?

  20. I mean, I appreciate the guy's scholarship and ability, but I *hate* the way
  21. he wrote.  Alternately too chatty and too self-consciously epic.  And I wish
  22. he hadn't thought he could write poetry....
