- Sorry, no cigar.
-
- The references are:- TLF P.109 (Corgi Paperback)
- RM P.269 (Corgi Paperback)
-
- Without tediously quoting them, if you read closely, each reference discusses
- *a* or *the* diamond (note singular). The RM reference calls it 'The Tear of
- Offler' and neither makes any reference to eyes. However, having given them
- a second read I am willing to entertain the possibility that there is more
- than one great statue of Offler and that each once possessed a fabulously
- large diamond. Furthermore, do you really think that Cohen would have gone
- to all the trouble of defeating the snake warriors of the witch lord of
- S'belinde only to steal ONE of a PAIR of diamonds? And where does it say
- how many eyes Offler has?
-
- As a postscript, does the fact that Offler is depicted weeping i.e. with
- a tear, have any relevance? Is this something to do with the phrase
- "crocodile tears", or am I, as I suspect, plumbing new depths of subtext
- of which the author was previously unaware :-)
