- Mike (and all Jittlov fans),
-
- A few weeks (months?) ago, I believe that someone asked a question
- on what format is best to get started in animation(?), 8mm, 16mm,
- or video. Mike answered video (methinks).
-
- I am very interested in getting started in video stop-motion. 2 months
- ago I purchased a VCR (my first), the 1993 Mitsubishi ??-67, a SVHS
- hi-fi model with flying erase heads that does perfect (as far as I can
- tell) cuts and inserts, and seems to be frame accurate if I advance 2
- frames when selecting the cut-in point, and when doing inserts, if I
- reverse 2 frames when selecting the cut-out point. It cost me a fortune,
- $800 Canadian. (Probably a lot less in the states).
-
- It's a very nice machine, but it lacks some features, such as
- not having to do this 2 frame work-around, and displaying a frame count
- in addition to hours, mins, & secs. i.e. 'hh:mm:ss.frame' would be nice.
- Also, I haven't tried this yet, but I figure that because of the 2 frame
- work-around, I probably can't do an insert-edit of only 1 frame.
-
- I'm now highly considering getting a second machine so that I can
- start editing. I haven't got a video camera yet, nor am I planning
- to get one just yet, because I don't think that I will be able to
- afford one after I get the second VCR, and in the meantime I can
- always try to borrow one off of friends. However, if the right
- video camera is out there, I may just start saving the cash and resort
- to eating only pasta in tomato sauce for the next few years.
-
- I would like to know if anyone can tell me what is the best
- reasonably priced video equiptment that I can get to get started
- in video stop-motion. i.e. VCRs & video cameras. Is my Mitsubishi
- VCR as good as it gets in an affordable unit? Are there video
- cameras that can do stop-motion without the need for extensive
- frame-by-frame post editing? Keep in mind that I can't afford
- too many gadgets such as editing consoles, the Video Toaster (tm)
- (pretty neat gizmo, but I think the base price is about US$3000),
- etc.
-
- Thanks,
- Mark
