  14. I will probably get flamed for saying so, but some of
  15. the stories are better than others.  Doyle wrote Holmes
  16. stories to pay the rent--a sort of literary cash cow--
  17. and some were rather poorly crafted, while others are 
  18. gems.  I, for one, don't worry much about what's good
  19. and what's bad.  I just enjoy the stories and the
  20. characters as a pleasant diversion.

  22. And yes, he did recycle some plot devices (like the
  23. bust by the window).
