  22. it seems plausible that more complex creatures could  be, too. Unwanted 
  23. breeding could be detered by lawsuits.

  26. by diet: ARNOLd needed certain nutrients not found in the  common  diet,
  27. limiting  his probable lifespan if he fled the Hive. Also, creative
  28. genegeneers could make living artifacts limited to  'useful' behavior.
  29. An  example:  poriomania causes humans to wander in a fugue state, 
  30. unaware of their travels (which can cross whole provinces), and able
  31. to perform complex activities (Like driving, or changing a car tire).
  32. Klawens, in 'Newton's Madness' mentions a 'twilight state' called
  33. automatism, similar to poriomania without the perigrination, and cites
  34. a case where a doctor correctly treated a patient while in a fugue state
  35. (pg 76-77). If a LA was designed which spent all non-training time in 
  36. such a state, the owners need never worry about nasty behavior like
  37. thinking or unionising on the part of the LAs.
