  11. Why does everyone insist that Belgarath and Polgara are members
  12. of the Rivan line?  The orb is usable by the descendants of Riva.
  13. This doesn't apply to inlaws.  Using the same line of reasoning 
  14. that allows Belgarath and Polgara to use the orb, we could say that
  15. Adara is capable of using the orb, because she's Garion's cousin.
  16. In fact, anyone related to anybody who's married into the Rivan
  17. line should be able to use the orb.  After a thousand years or so,
  18. I suppose that half of Aloria will be capable of wielding the orb
  19. if they chose to do so.  Riva was pure, so the orb allowed him to
  20. touch it.  In fact, the bond between Riva and the orb grew so strong
  21. that the orb developed a fondness for all of his descendants.  This
  22. doesn't mean that Riva's wife and her family have the same privileges. 
  23. But then, I'm repeating myself.  The point is that only Garion, his 
  24. children, Eriond, or anyone who has no evil intentions in their soul 
  25. can touch the orb.  As for how the orb got on the shield, I believe in
  26. the theory that it was translocated.  I believe that someone posted
  27. something to that effect a while back.
