- because he had never served there before. Before becoming president,
- Quincy Adams had been Minister to Holland and to Prussia, a Senator,
- Minister to Russia, Ambassador to England, and Secretary of State.
- After leaving the presidency, he served in the House for eighteen years,
- and he died in the Speaker's Room.
