  21. Well, it might have been a sure-thing for the RepubliCons,
  22. except that the RepubliCon candidate was a pathologically lying
  23. adultering waffle king with a bad record of raising taxes on
  24. the entire nation.  Let's not forget that this same
  25. candidate spent most of his term telling the American
  26. people that we were not in a recession.  This candidate
  27. also thinks that Dan Quayl is qualified to be President,
  28. and that Clarence Thomas is qualified to be a lifetime
  29. member of the US Supreme Court.

  31. The RepubliCon spin/apologists are already
  32. propagating the line the Bush could have won if
  33. (choose one) (a) he had stuck to pure conservative
  34. Reaganite principles  (b) the Republican Convention
  35. had not been such a hate-fest  (c) the campaign had
  36. been run by a pit-bull like the late Lee Atwater
  37. (d) Perot had not been in the campaign
  38. (e) Perot had not left the campaign in July.
  39. They can keep believing any fantasy they choose.
  40. Bush lost because he was the worst President 
  41. since Coolidge.

  47. After 1980 and 1984, I no longer underestimate the gullability
  48. of the voter.  The 1992 campaign will be notable as the first
  49. one in many years in which there was high voter interest
  50. and knowledge of the actual issues that separated the
  51. three candidates.  Stripped of the slick feel-good advertising
  52. and the wild distortions of recent presidential campaigns,
  53. the national Republican ticket simply had little to offer
  54. the American people.

  56. If Quayl is a serious candidate in 1996, and especially
  57. if he wins the nomination, it will show that the Republican
  58. party has learned nothing from this year's defeat.
