Neither the kids nor the staff of Cavaliers (and I assume the other corps
as well) knew the results of prelims that year. I think that the intentions
of DCI were good in that they didn't want the judges to be influenced by the
knowledge of prelims scores, but I'm glad they went back to the old system.
