  32. A friend of mine who suffers from narcolepsy has/had hypnogogic
  33. hallucinations which were more or less like that, though she
  34. didn't specifically mention snakes.  More like signs uprooting
  35. themselves from the roadside and chasms opening in the road ahead.

  37. That doesn't say whether or not the incident described was a "true"
  38. flashback, but suggests that there is at least one other explanation.
  39. Having that happen to someone I know, not during an actual trip,
  40. wouldn't have put me off LSD.

  42. If your friend's SO also exhibits a lot of daytime drowsiness or
  43. drinks a _lot_ of coffee and still conks out early he should probably
  44. talk with an MD, but I don't think there are any illnesses that
  45. _specifically_ have a symptom of seeing giant snakes in the road.
