- I tend to be skeptical of groups so narrowly focused, because I begin
- to wonder, "Will we soon be seeing alt.drugs.marijuana?
- alt.drugs.hash? alt.drugs.methadone? alt.drugs.banana-peels?" After a
- while it seems to me that people clamor for new groups in this vein
- not because the topic dominates the general newsgroup, but because of
- the perceived glamour of a topic-specific group.
-
- Splitting alt.drugs based on classes of drugs, such as
- alt.drugs.depressants, alt.drugs.stimulants, alt.drugs.hallucinogens,
- and so on, might make more sense, but I doubt that they'd improve the
- traffic much. People tend to crosspost wildly if they're not sure
- what they're talking about.

-
- If people aren't reading the alt.drugs LSD FAQ, it's doubtful that
- they'd read the FAQ for alt.drugs.lsd. There's a fundamental problem
- in communication here.
