  13. I was discussing the psycological causes of flashbacks (as opposed to the
  14. false belief that LSD causes them by chemical means) with a friend when she
  15. related the following story about a flashback her SO had.  It was obviously
  16. a tramatic experience and neither of them use LSD any more because of it.

  18. I'm posting it here for several reasons.  First, it's a really interesting
  19. (although scarey story).  Second, I'd like to know if anyone else has had
  20. this sort of intense flashback.  Is this type of flashback common for people
  21. with a particular psycological problem?  Should he seek professional help?
  22. I have never heard of anyone else having such an incredibly tramatic flashback
  23. and I always assumed that this type of story was an urban legend, so your
  24. comments will be appreciated.

  26. Below is the story as it was related to me.  I've removed the names of the
  27. people involved where the <>s are.

  30. I can see how the flashbacks could be caused how the message stated, but
  31. <>'s flashbacks are always new experiences.  He hasn't tripped in 7 months.
  32. He was driving daown my road and we were talking about <> moving to Montana
  33. All of a sudden he looked straight ahead and got this terrified look in
  34. his eyes - he couldn't even speak but it looked like he was trying to scream.
  35. He threw his arms around his head, trying to protect it from something - I
  36. grabbed for the wheel and was trying to drive while he was pressing the gas.
  37. I started yelling at him to snap out of it - "What's wrong, dammit?!! Take
  38. your foot of the gas pedal.. Take your foot off the gas!!"  I just kept
  39. yelling over and over, he finally took his foot off the gas and curled into
  40. a little ball in the driver's seat - I threw the car into neutral and drove
  41. into
  42. a field to get it to stop.  He eventually snapped out of it.  I asked him
  43. what happened - he said this huge snake had burst out of the road and was
  44. heading straight for the car with its mouth open - he was going to serve
  45. but then he saw them everywhere.  He even said there wer little ones in the
  46. car trying to eat his eyes.  He was mortified.  He said he couldn't ever
  47. remember having had a trip that involved snakes before.
  48. That was enough for me.
