- Periactin (cyproheptadine) is an antihistamine with some antiserotonin effects
- which are mostly clinically insignificant. The drug increases appetite and
- can cause weight gain, possible due to its serotonin-blocking actions. Usually
- serotonergic drugs (i.e., drugs which facilitate serotonin-mediated nerve
- transmissions) are useful in treating OCD. Periactin is exactly the opposite.
- It's occasionally been given to treat anorgasmia/delayed orgasm secondary to
- treatment with MAO inhibitors, clomipramine (Anafranil) or fluoxetine (Prozac),
- all of which would be called "serotonergic" agents.
