  11.      Ramayana epic that is famous in Indonesia is Walmiki's version.
  12. When I was a dancer at the Prambanan Ramayana theatre 10  years ago,
  13. I saw a motto by Walmiki on the wall. If I'm not mistaken, it says:
  14.     
  15.      As mountains still erupt
  16.      and rivers still flow
  17.      Ramayana epic still exists

  19.      The main characters in RAMAYANA
  20. are Rama, Rahwana or Dasamuka (10 faces), Lesmana, Hanoman, Shinta,
  21. and Kumbokarna. Also a giant eagle (I forget the name) was important
  22. in the story. Rahwana is a king in Alengka. Maybe Indonesian version
  23. is a bit different in the meaning of each part of play....There are
  24. 4 parts in the play ( as it's played in Prambanan theatre): 
  25.         1. Shinta is kidnapped
  26.         2. Hanoman is burnt
  27.         3. Kumbokarna dies and
  28.         4. Shinta is burnt
  29.    
  30.      In the story, Kumbokarna is portrayed as a good beast. He never
  31. intended to kill anyone who invades his country (Rama and some 
  32. creatures-monkeys, eagles, etc) but knowing that his country is being
  33. destroyed, he just defend it till he dies. In fact, he refused to fight
  34. Rama in the beginning of the invasion.
