  10. Okay, now it's my turn to comment on this BladeRunner thread, whether or not
  11. Deckard is an android...

  13. Perhaps this is out of line, but the movie was based on a book by Philip K.
  14. Dick called DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP?  The whole point of the book,
  15. I think, was the fact that Deckard himself is not sure whether he is human or
  16. android.  His relationship with the android played by Rachel Ward (I forget the
  17. names now, it's been a long time since I've seen the movie or read the book) is
  18. what causes him to question his own humanity.  He realizes that if she has been
  19. implanted with fake memories, then so he could have been implanted also.  I can
  20. distinctly remember a scene in the book which was not in the movie, in which
  21. Deckard finds a turtle.  Most animals are extinct at this time, and he flips the
  22. turtle over on its back to see if it is real.  It is not, and he doesn't know
  23. what to feel about this.  The whole story is based on this ambiguity: he doesn't
  24. really feel anything about anything, does he?  He seems to just float through
  25. life with a sneer on his face...

  27. Anyway, to pick up where a previous poster left off, discussing the 'droids
  28. as classified A, B, and C for their physical and mental abilities, could it be
  29. that Deckard is a B in both physical and mental, Roy is an A in both, Priss is
  30. A in physical and B in mental, and Leon is an A in physical and C in mental--
  31. who says that they all have to be the same?  Also, in the case of Deckard being
  32. classified lower than the rest, isn't this possible also?  Maybe his level was
  33. the only one that the police force could afford....

  35. And, to respond to the question from Michael Wojcik of UPenn, which was: "Is
  36. there a logically ordered, edited, rewriten (sic) paper based on the IDAR?
  37. thread?"  The answer is YES!!  Read the book!!!
