- Uh, no, you're only half correct. "Swordsman" stars Sam Hui, who has
- been doing movies (and singing) in Hong Kong for years. I understand
- that the movie was half written as a tribute to King What'shisname,
- who directed a whole bunch of martial-arts/fantasy films back in the
- 60s and 70s. King was a co-director through much of the film
- (although he had to bow out due to poor health), and all this made Sam
- Hui a perfect choice to play the heroic lead.
-
- Tsui Hark seems to have had free-reign over the sequel, since he
- replaced pretty much every actor in the first film (mostly with his
- current group of actors). Jet Li and Rosamund Kwan are both from
- OUATIC 1 and 2, for example, and the imprisoned Highlander chief was
- the Iron Skin martial artist from OUATIC.
-
- "Swordsman" and its sequel are very good films. The first doesn't
- have as tight a storyline as the second, but it's a touch crazier (a
- good thing) and the sets and costumes are stunning.
