  24. Well, for some odd reason, I've never gotten to see THX, but I've always 
  25. thought Dark Star was one of the best space-movie parodies ever made.  It
  26. has some of the best low-budget special effects ever in a space movie.

  28. The movie began as a thesis project for Carpenter, working with Dan O'Bannon,
  29. but when Carpenter dropped out of USC, he took the movie, blew it up to 35mm,
  30. and got funding to finish it.
