  13. As to UPC bar codes, I am not myself a believer in end-time biblical
  14. prophecy. However, a number of otherwise intelligent people accept
  15. the book of Revelations as an accurate and God-inspired statement of
  16. our coming history. It is a document obviously written in symbols, 
  17. with a great deal of latitude as to how those symbols are to be 
  18. understood. The "Mark of the Beast" is usually taken to have a numerical
  19. significance, and to be associated with the privelege of participating
  20. in a totally controlled economic marketplace. If one accepts the 
  21. original premise of Revalation's validity for our time, then it
  22. does not seem too unreasonable a stretch to consider UPC codes an
  23. aspect of the "Mark of the Beast" symbolism.
