- You're right, I'm sure, Superman isn't dead. It's fashionable in
- comics to rework teh invincible and therefore (hmmm) omni-solvens
- (solving all problems - I wish that was a real word) hero to
- something more flawed and human just as has been done in many other
- genres. The rise of the anti-hero. To that extent, what Superman
- originally stood for may be dead. But the Superman character I'm sure
- will be back. I *keep* hearing and seeing stories where Batman dies -
- this guy seems to vacation in a coffin! - but he's always back at the
- end.
- By the way - Mary rubs her nose shyly - I *think Superman is Marvel
- and Action comics ratehr than the Beast of 5th Avenue (oh, they
- moved, I know but 666 5th Avenue is a *neat* address!)
- I gues we need all those sorts of heroes - the clean men, the tired
- and skirting round the law heroes, the by-the-book and bare knuckle
- fighting heroes, the dying for love of people or planet or lving on
- to fight alone heroes...... they're all a comfort and inspiration to
- me...
- She hefts her glass - "to the images, still and moving, that move us
- all! See you next year Superman"
