- Hmmm...my personal approach would be to start with some flavor. Perhaps
- begin with an Anchor Steam. If that's too tasty, then a Boston Lager may
- be of some value. Otherwise, a sampling of Dos Equis, New Amsterdam New
- York Ale, and Sam Adams Wheat will provide a fairly nice (and not too
- expensive) example of what's to come. From there, you can quickly move to
- the English ales, the German lagers, and several of the porters and stouts
- from Ireland and America (e.g., Guinness, Yuengling, Grant's, Sierra Nevada,
- Anchor, etc.). And there is so much more...lambics, Pilsner Urquell, barley
- wines, etc., etc.
- The Boston Lager seems to be held with some high regard, but my taste
- buds can't seem to find any flavor in the bottle. It is slightly better
- than any American megabrewed sewage, but not drastically. Heck, the Boston
- Ale has a much fuller taste, almost as much hop character as some of the
- English pale ales. I still fail to see the appeal of the Lager. I'm
- confident some of the alt.beer readers will try to enlighten me, though. :)
- However, the important thing is that it tastes good to you. You must
- take the time to sample at least a few of what the world (and America's
- micro-breweries) has to offer. If, after all is said and drank, you still
- like Bud Dry, then so be it...I'll try not to hold it against you. ;)
