- News over UUCP is usually compressed. News over NNTP (Internet) is
- sent as text.
-
- If you have a V.32bis/V.42bis modem as your Internet link you can take a
- pretty large feed. First your basic signaling speed is 14.4Kb/s. With
- V.42bis compression that tends to bump it up to about 25Kb/s (real time
- tests with USENET postings). You aren't going to get that magical 4X
- speed using TCP/IP over these links. CSLIP helps a bit, but mainly with
- telnet (interactive, low byte count) sessions.
-
- Currently I am taking about 150 newsgroups. I know other sites using
- V.32bis/V.42bis modems taking a pretty full feed, and their line is not
- maxed out.
